$150m Infrastructure Fund Targets Nigeria’s Pension Billions: Here’s What It Means

A new $150 million Infrastructure Climate-Resilient Fund Nigeria has been launched by AFC Capital Partners, creating a new investment vehicle designed to channel domestic institutional capital into Nigerian infrastructure projects. The fund received approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission and will target sectors including transport, logistics, renewable energy and digital infrastructure.

The Nigerian vehicle forms part of Africa Finance Corporation’s wider $750 million climate-resilient infrastructure initiative and is expected to help mobilise up to $3.7 billion in total project financing. The fund is targeting pension fund administrators, insurers and other institutional investors, with capital raising now the immediate priority.

For investors, the development creates another potential channel for Nigeria’s large pool of institutional savings to finance assets capable of generating long-term returns. The fund is also structured to address the risk concerns that have historically limited institutional investment in infrastructure.

AFC Capital Partners said it expects the first investment before the end of 2026, with transport and renewable-energy projects expected to receive the initial allocations after the fund reaches its first close.

The key watchpoints are the pace of fundraising, the projects selected for investment and whether the fund can attract sufficient domestic institutional participation to reach its target.
