Afriland Properties Plc has appointed Agatha Obiekwugo as Chairman of its Board of Directors, replacing Emmanuel Nnorom, who is retiring after more than a decade in the position.
The real estate company announced the leadership transition on Monday, August 31, 2026. Obiekwugo joined Afriland Properties’ board in October 2018 as a Non-Executive Director and has served on its Finance, Risk and General-Purpose Committee as well as its Nomination, Audit and Governance Committee.
The new chairman brings more than 30 years of experience across banking, commerce, information technology, consulting and oil and gas. She is also the founder and CEO of Adassa Energy and serves on the boards of Heirs Insurance Brokers and Houce Limited.
For investors, the change comes as Afriland Properties continues to expand its real estate portfolio in a market facing high construction costs, elevated financing expenses and changing demand patterns. The continuity provided by Obiekwugo’s existing board experience could help limit disruption to the company’s strategic direction while giving the board new leadership.
Nnorom joined Afriland’s board in 2014 and chaired it for more than a decade. Managing Director and CEO Azubike Emodi thanked him for his contribution and said Obiekwugo’s understanding of the company and broader business experience would support its strategy and long-term value creation.
Investors will now watch whether the leadership transition is followed by changes in Afriland’s property-development strategy, investment pipeline or capital-allocation priorities as the new chairman begins her tenure.
