MTN Group has announced two key internal executive appointments to strengthen its leadership capabilities as it accelerates the execution of its Ambition 2030 strategy. Ashutosh Tiwary will assume the role of Operations Executive for Francophone Markets on September 1, 2026, while Ikenna Ikeme has been named Executive for Group Regulatory Affairs, effective September 7, 2026.
These appointments are highly strategic for investors. Tiwary, who brings over 27 years of telecom experience in Africa and India, will oversee operations in Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, and Congo Brazzaville to drive commercial excellence and sustainable growth. His track record includes managing complex operational turnarounds, notably delivering the turnaround and eventual portfolio optimization and sale of MTN's Guinea Bissau business.
For regulatory risk management, Ikeme’s transition from his current role as General Manager of Regulatory Affairs at MTN Nigeria one of the group's most critical markets is a significant development. Ikeme has over 30 years of experience navigating complex compliance environments across the telecom, banking, and insurance sectors. He previously directed critical Nigerian industry initiatives, including 5G licensing, spectrum transactions, national roaming arrangements, and infrastructure sharing. At the group level, he will be responsible for managing regulatory risks, policy advocacy, and stakeholder relationships across MTN’s footprint.
Investors should monitor how these leaders drive performance and mitigate risks amid Africa's increasingly dynamic and competitive telecom landscape. Success will be measured by MTN's ability to navigate complex regional regulatory frameworks while executing its broader Ambition 2030 growth targets.
