MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has announced the departure of Eyitope Kola-Oyeneyin, an Independent Non-Executive Director on its Board, effective August 31, 2026.
The telecommunications company disclosed the development in a regulatory filing submitted to the Nigerian Exchange Limited on August 28, 2026, and signed by its Company Secretary, Uto Ukpanah.
MTN Nigeria did not disclose a reason for Kola-Oyeneyin’s departure. The company thanked her for her contributions to the Board and wished her well in her future endeavours.
Kola-Oyeneyin’s appointment as an Independent Non-Executive Director became effective on January 2, 2025, following the company’s notification to the NGX in December 2024. Her appointment was subsequently confirmed by shareholders at MTN Nigeria’s Annual General Meeting on April 30, 2025.
She brings more than 25 years of experience across banking, management consulting, digital financial services, strategy and public policy. Kola-Oyeneyin is Managing Partner of Augmentum Advisory and previously served as a Partner and co-lead of McKinsey’s Payments and Fintech Practice for Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She also previously headed First Bank’s international banking business.
Her departure comes shortly after a separate development in her career. On July 13–14, 2026, President Bola Tinubu approved her appointment as Chairperson of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), where she is expected to contribute to efforts to strengthen investment promotion and governance.
However, MTN Nigeria’s regulatory filing does not state that the NIPC appointment is connected to her departure from the Board.
The announcement is therefore primarily a change in the composition of MTN Nigeria’s Board, with the company’s filing providing no indication of any immediate impact on its operations, strategy, earnings or outlook.
MTN Nigeria remains one of the largest companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange.
