The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) closed Friday’s trading session, August 28, 2026, on a mixed note as investors showed strong interest in banking stocks, while sharp gains and losses were recorded across other sectors.
Seplat Energy led the gainers, rising 10% to close at ₦12,320.60, while Omatek Ventures gained 9.49% to ₦1.50. Transcorp Hotels climbed 9.76% to ₦265.50, DAAR Communications rose 9.42% to ₦1.51, and University Press advanced 8.57% to ₦5.70.
On the losing side, TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria recorded the biggest decline, falling 10% to ₦576. Haldane McCall dropped 8.78% to ₦3.74, while E-Tranzact declined 8.62% to ₦13.25. Austin Laz and Ava Capital also shed 7.41% and 7.14%, respectively.
Banking stocks provided some of the strongest support during the session. AccessCorp gained 2.61%, Wema Bank rose 2.50%, Fidelity Bank advanced 1.32%, while Zenith Bank and GTCO gained 1.26% and 0.78%, respectively. UBA also edged higher by 0.22%.
The Oil & Gas sector delivered a mixed performance. While Seplat surged 10%, Oando fell 1.78% and Eterna declined 0.56%, highlighting the divergent performance among energy stocks.
Trading activity remained strong in several major counters, with AccessCorp recording about 42.3 million shares, Zenith Bank 41.8 million, and Chams 34.3 million shares.
Overall, Friday’s session reflected selective buying rather than broad-based market strength, with investors appearing to rotate into banking and selected high-performing stocks while taking profits in other counters.
