NGX Market Summary : Wednesday, September 2, 2026

Nigerian stocks saw strong trading activity today, with energy and insurance stocks posting notable gains while several stocks came under heavy selling pressure.

OANDO emerged as one of the session's biggest winners, jumping 9.43% to ₦38.30 on nearly 8 million shares. The strong price move alongside substantial volume points to renewed buying interest in the energy stock.

Insurance names also attracted buyers. SOVRENINS rose 9.71% to ₦2.26, while NEM gained 7.99% to ₦34.45. TRIPPLEG hit its 10% upper price limit, closing at ₦2.86, while MCNICHOLS advanced 9.09%.

On the downside, BETAGLAS fell 9.99% to ₦506.60, hitting its lower limit. ACADEMY (Academy Press) dropped 9.76% from ₦6.15 to ₦5.55, while CWG declined 9.35% to ₦19.40. LEARNAFRCA (-9.20%), SUNUASSUR (-5.83%) and NEIMETH (-5.06%) were also among the notable decliners.

Banking stocks remained at the centre of market activity. GTCO traded more than 15 million shares, while UBA recorded nearly 14 million shares worth about ₦653.6 million, despite closing 2.82% lower at ₦46.50.

DANGSUGAR and CHAMS also recorded substantial volumes, while high-value stocks such as MTNN and SEPLAT contributed significantly to turnover.

Wednesday's session points to a selective and volatile market, rather than a broad-based rally. Investors are rotating between individual stocks and sectors, making volume-backed price momentum particularly important to watch.

OANDO's strong advance, continued activity in major banks and sharp moves in several smaller counters will be key areas to monitor in the next session.
