Pivot Energy Raises ₦100.08bn in Maiden Commercial Paper Deal as Investors Back Downstream Expansion

Pivot Integrated Energy Services Limited has raised ₦100.08 billion through its maiden Series 1 Commercial Paper issuance, marking the downstream energy company’s first entry into Nigeria’s debt capital market.

The issuance was launched under Pivot’s broader ₦300 billion Commercial Paper Programme and attracted subscriptions slightly above the ₦100 billion target. The transaction was arranged by Pathway Advisors Limited, with participation from pension funds, insurance companies, banks, asset managers, investment funds and corporate treasuries.

The proceeds will be used to support Pivot’s operations in the trading, storage, distribution and supply of refined petroleum products across Nigeria and selected African markets. The company is one of the approved off-takers under the Dangote Refinery PMS Consortium and previously launched the Series 1 programme with three tenors ranging from 180 to 364 days.

For investors, the successful debut provides an indication of institutional appetite for short-term corporate debt from established players in Nigeria’s downstream energy market. It also gives Pivot access to an additional financing channel as it seeks to expand its trading and distribution operations.

However, the ₦80 million excess subscription over the ₦100 billion target represents only 0.08% oversubscription, so the transaction should not be characterised as a dramatic excess-demand event.

Investors will watch whether Pivot returns to the market for subsequent issuances under its ₦300 billion programme and whether the additional working capital translates into higher trading volumes and stronger operating performance.
